Woodstock of snowboarding at the Arlberg
Longboard Classic in Stuben
Once a year for more than two decades, Stuben am Arlberg has been the Woodstock of snowboarding. The “Longboard Classic” was brought into being by snowboard pioneer Paul Gruber in 1999. Since then, the race across 1,001 metres in altitude on the treeless north-facing slopes – far away from groomed pistes – has reached cult status.
Every year, several hundred snowboarders come to the Arlberg and compete in four categories. However, they are not aiming for first place in the ‘Longboard Classic’, but for the experience and the feeling of absolute freedom. Sounds clichéd, but anyone who has ever taken part will certainly understand why participating sometimes really is all that counts.
